How to catch, get a headcollar on and then lead your untouched horse. Few things are more rewarding than meeting a horse that is untouched by humans and over a period of minutes, hours or days causing him to believe that humans are not so bad after all - in fact that it is even good to be near them! In this book Kelly Marks writes about the techniques and skills required to achieve the answers to one of the many problems she encounters most frequently. Beginning with ways to catch the horse and separate him from his companions, Kelly proceeds to describe how to put a first headcollar on and then to lead the horse. As with all her teaching, Kelly bases her advice on experience gained from her work handling a wide variety of horses and ponies at her demonstrations and clinics around the world. This is the second book I've reviewed by Kelly Marks, and I respect her even more after reading Handling the Untouched Horse. Her commonsense to working with wild (feral) horses is a breathe of fresh air in a book genre filled with trainers trying to 'sell' their natural horsemanship methods. What I like best about Marks is her emphasis on safety. She recommends wearing a safety helmet, gloves and protective footwear (and is shown in the photos practicing what she preaches). Best of all, Marks has a sense of humour and, is not afraid to poke a little fun at her own expense (see photo caption on page 5). Although this is a small book it is mighty in terms of content. I highly recommend it - Review from the Horsemen's Yankee Pedlar in the USA |
