The Monty Roberts Preliminary Certificate of Horsemanship 


The 'Monty Roberts Preliminary Certificate of Horsemanship' (MRPCH) is now in modular form making it easier and more accessible for the average horseperson to learn these unique methods.

Any module can be taken on a freestanding basis and purely for pleasure and education. However, if you would like to work towards gaining the 'Monty Roberts Preliminary Certificate of Horsemanship' it is necessary to be a member of the Intelligent Horsemanship Association and successfully complete the following:

  •  Stage One 5 day Foundation Course

  • Handling the Young Foal

  • Stud Practice

  • Feeding and Nutrition

  • The Horse as an Athlete

  • Horse Psychology

Psychology Project

The other modules can be taken in any order you choose and you will then need to submit a one page outline for your proposed Psychology project to Veronica Fowler: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
Once approved you will need to begin work on your project which you will present at the exam week.

Join-Up Evidence

You also need to submit evidence of your join up work. The Join up Form should list 10 Join Up’s you have completed since the course (3 Full Join Up’s)

Video work detailing 2 Join Ups and 1 full Join up, 1 leading or loading to be sent to Sarah Dent (RA).

You will then be contacted in writing and invited to take the Five day assessment and Review Week if your video evidence has been successful.

Stage Two 5 day Exam Week (by invitation):

The Stage Two 5 day course is not available to be taken until all other modules are completed and is by invitation only.

  • Kelly Marks is in regular touch with Monty Roberts and he supports both her courses and her world-wide demonstrations of these methods.

  • The Intelligent Horsemanship dedicated teaching team are second to none. All have teaching and counselling qualifications and yet work with young and remedial horses full time when not teaching on the courses.

  • We have a high ratio of teachers to students on the foundation course so personal attention and individual needs will have the utmost attention.

  • You'll have the backing of the Intelligent Horsemanship Association as well as Kelly Marks office.

  • If you can really develop top class skills there is a possibility you can go on to become a 'Recommended Associate' for the Intelligent Horsemanship Associate and be recommended to members of the public in your area.

  • You can retake the theory side of the foundation course free of charge by choosing the working student option.
