REDGATE FARM ANIMAL SANCTUARY Leicestershire (Markfield) Redgate are desperate for volunteer helpers, for good quality items for their charity shops and for people to give animals (particularly dogs) good homes. Various fund raising events take place throughout the year.
ONLY FOALS AND HORSES LANCASHIRE This animal sanctuary rescued their first foals and ponies from a Welsh auction in October 1001, since then they have rescued hundreds of horses and ponies from all different backgrounds.
At present they home over 150 horses and ponies, plus a menagerie of pigs, goats, sheep, chickens and rabbits. They have earned a reputation as the 'Last Drop Village' where many animals can find a place to live without being in fear.
The sanctuary relies solely upon donations from the public, and they have many volunteers who all play a vital part in the survival of the home. They are always in dire need of funds.
If you are able to help in any way, by donating a cash amount or adopting one of the ponies from £10 per year or even just sending unwanted articles that they could sell in their shop please contact them on 01254 235559 - Mrs Olive Lomas or 01254 55101/708902 - Mrs Dawn Buckley, Mail OFAH, Redshell Stables, REdshell Lane Off Haslingden Old Road, Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire BB5 3RW

Also needed FIELD OFFICERS. Now that they have over 170 horses and ponies out on loan to adoptive homes, the task of inspecting them each year is increasingly difficult. The SWHP is looking for volunteers to check a modest number of animals each year with the SWHP paying the travelling costs. If you think you could help with these please contact the SWHP straight away.

GREENLOANING EQUINE CARE CENTRE A small charity that has been looking after retired and rescued horses and ponies for some years now, and became a Scottish registered charity in August 2001 under the patronage of Willie Carson. Our aims are to:
· Relieve the suffering and distress of equines in need of care and protection
· Educate the public, particularly young people, in the welfare and management of horses and ponies.
We run a children's riding club at the weekends to meet our aims in education, and will also be hosting a riding clinic in 2002 run by IH associate Adam Goodfellow.
To find out more, visit our website at www.equinecarecentre.com
If you would like to help us there are several ways in which you can do this:
* Donating any jumble or items suitable for a Tombolla or bric-a-brac stall. We have an open day every August and these stalls are hugely sucessful and always empty well before the day is over. * If you live nearby, we would hugely appreciate help during the week with yard work, and at the weekend leading ponies in the children's riding club
* If you would like to donate some money or set up a standing order to us, even giving a couple of pounds a month, every little bit helps! Details of how to do this are on our website.

BROOKE HOSPITAL FOR ANIMALS At present, Brooke Hospital works in Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan and India to provide free veterinary treatment to the working equines of developing countries, as well as educating and advising owners on proper animal management. In these countries the horses, donkeys and mules belong to the very poorest people and are their only source of income. These animals are still the principal means of transporting goods, produce and people, and their lives are often plagued by debility and disease. In many cases these animals suffer terribly from heat exhaustion, harness sores, beating wounds, poor farriery and inadequate nutrition. Some are so painfully thin and riddled with worms that they are incapable of taking in what little food they have. Others have become terribly lame with the strain of constantly pulling overloaded carts. Their owners are not cruel but desperately poor and do not have sufficient knowledge to help themselves or their animals.
The Brooke Hospital for Animals has provided a free veterinary service to improve the welfare of working equine animals overseas since 1934. An Englishwoman, Dorothy Brooke, originally established the charity to rescue the ex-cavalry horses sold to Egyptian owners after the First World War. These magnificent horses, once accustomed to all the comforts of a good life were forced into hard labour on the bustling streets and in the deep stone quarries. Mrs Brooke worked tirelessly to raise funds and within three years the remaining five thousand cavalry horses and mules abandoned in Egypt had been bought for humane destruction. They ended their days in peaceful and loving surroundings in the stables Mrs Brooke had bought for the purpose.
For more information on how you can help the work of the Brooke Hospital please go to www.brooke-hospital.org.uk. Alternatively, give us a call on 020 7930 0210. Thank you

TRALLWM FARM www.trallwmfarm.co.uk Trallwm farm is a rescue centre, where we have horses here that were due to be put down that live a full and healthy life. We take up the slack caused by human error. We also have cattle, goats, loads of pigs, chickens, ducks, dogs and cats all living out a full life. Sadly some won't survive but at least they have had a time of good feed, freedom and love. Most animals that that arrive here are traumatized so this will be their permanent home; though we aim to re-home all animals that we feel able to do so. We survive soley upon donations given to us not only in the way of money but also through donations of feed and other equipment. Any assistance which anyone can give to us would be greatly recieved.
